    Rowlett, Texas

Counting Rockwall, Garland, Mesquite and Health among its closest bordering communities, Rowlett, Texas is located in both Dallas and Rockwall Counties and is considered a bedroom or commuter community for nearby Dallas. Rowlett, Texas is situated on Lake Ray Hubbard and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. At the time of the 2000 census, Rowlett's population was 44,503 with residents falling under the 75030, 75088 and 75089 zip codes and the 972 area code.

Rowlett, TX is named for the Rowlett Creek which runs into Lake Ray Hubbard and comprises part of the Trinity River's East Fork. Somewhat ironically, the Rowlett Creek was named for Daniel Rowlett who moved to Texas in 1835 from Kentucky. The creek ran through Daniel Rowlett's property which was a large part of the reason it was named for him. Although part of the Smoot-Rowlett political family, Daniel Rowlett had no association, aside from sharing his name, with the City of Rowlett.

At the time Rowlett's first post office opened in 1880, the town was named Morris after its postmaster, Austin Morris. It wasn't until at least 1886 that the name was changed to Rowlett; around the time the Dallas to Greenville Railway began passing through the town.
