Some History; Bee Cave

Built largely by the hard work and perseverance of its residents, Bee Cave has always remained what it was intended to be – a pleasant and friendly place where a family could raise its children without worrying about the hassles of big city government. As of the census in 2004, the population was only 1,700 although that was up from 2000 in which the population was only 656. Over 50% of the households in Bee Cave have children under the age of 18. None of the families in Bee Cave were living below the poverty line as of the 2007 consensus and only .05% of the over all population was.

Bee Cave focuses on helping their neighbors in need and it isn't uncommon for the citizens of this quaint and idyllic city to band together to help someone who is struggling. Although Bee Cave is a relatively new city in its current form, only officially established in 1987, it has been in place to serve as an alternative for big city living for over 140 years.

Carl Beck moved into the area that would become Bee Cave in 1870 and opened his general store. Settlers in the area and travelers passing through via what is now State Highway 71, would stop at Beck's store for supplies, to get their mail and to gather socially. It wasn't until 1873, however, that Beck would give the town his greatest gift – its name. It was in 1873 that Beck became postmaster in the area which urged him to add an official post office to his store. It needed a name though, so after some consideration, he decided to name that post office 'Bee Cave' as an homage to the Mexican bees that built their hives on local buildings.
