    Located in both Comal and Guadalupe counties, New Braunfels, Texas is bordered by San Marcos, Lockhart, Luling, Seguin, Schertz, Timberwood Park and Canyon Lake. New Braunfels, TX is the county seat of Comal County and is considered the San Antonio-New Braunfels. As of 2007, the estimated population of New Braunfels, TX was 51,804 with residents falling under the 830 area code and zip codes 78130 through 78133.

    Carl of Solms-Braunfels, a German Prince, established New Braunfels, Texas in 1845. He named the community after his hometown of Braunfels, Germany. German settlers began arriving in New Braunfels, TX in 1844 with a second wave of German settlers arriving in 1846. Three disasters struck the German settlers around this time – the most serious being an outbreak of cholera that killed several hundred people. The city recovered for the setback, however, and by 1850 New Braunfels, TX was thriving and had come to be the fourth largest city in Texas with only Houston, San Antonio and0 Galveston having a larger population. The current local newspaper, the Herald-Zeitung, was founded in 1852 under the name Zeitung.
