Grapevine, TX was founded thanks to a treaty that resulted from a meeting that took place in 1843 in which the leaders of ten Native American nations met with General Sam Houston and other Republic of Texas Commissioners. As a result of this treaty, pioneers and homesteaders were able to settle the area and take up residence in the new community.
The community was named Grapevine after the mustang grapes that were common throughout the area. The first record of settlers in the area dates back to the late 1840s and early 1850s. Although Grapevine, Texas never experienced the population boom some of its neighboring cities did, its population climbed steadily throughout its history. In the 1980s and 1990s the increases were more significant than in its earlier days thanks to the opening of the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
