Flower Mound, Texas is located partially in Denton County and partially in Tarrant County with residents falling under the 75022 and 75028 zip codes. Although Flower Mound has the feel of a mid-size city, it refuses to be referred to as a city favoring the designation of town. Known as the Town of Flower Mound, despite recent growth and development, it retains its Town Hall and holds Town Council. With an estimated population of 50,702 as of the 2000 census the population had increased significantly to an estimated 68,377 according to the United States Census Bureau in 2007.
Flower Mound, TX provides easy access to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Bordered by Lewisville, Highland Village, Double Oak and Bartonville, Flower Mound, TX is has two major highways through the town. Cross Timbers Road, or FM 1171, runs through the town from east to west and FM 2499 runs north to south. FM 2499 allows easy access to State Highway 121 and Interstate 635.
Despite the residential and commercial development seen in Flower Mound, Texas, the actual flower mound the town was named after remains privately owned so that it can be protected from development. The mound is a 12.5 acre plot of land that is believed to have been a ceremonial ground used by the Wichita Indians in the 1800s. The entire mound is covered in wild flowers.
