Farmers Branch, Texas

Part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Farmers Branch, Texas is a city in Dallas County with an estimated population of 26,455 in 2008 according to the United States Census Bureau. Farmers Branch, TX is considered an inner-ring suburb of Dallas, which basically means it is within the innermost ring of the suburbs outside Dallas city limits. Residents of Farmers Branch, TX fall under the 75234 zip code and the 972 area code.

First settled in the early 1840s, Farmers Branch, Texas was originally founded under the name Mustang Branch. The original land grants were issued to Thomas Keenan, Isaac B. Webb and William Cochran in 1842. Cochran changed the name of the settlement although it isn't clear when, to Farmers Branch to represent the rich, fertile soil perfect for farming.

In 1845, Farmers Branch became the first location of the Texan Land and Immigration Company, which was also known as Peters Colony. This addition brought Farmers Branch a lot of attention thanks to advertisements throughout the United States and Europe. 1845 brought much more to Farmers Branch, TX than Peters Colony. William Bowles opened a gristmill and a blacksmith shop and Isaac Webb donated land for what would become Dallas County's first place of worship, Webb's Chapel Methodist Church. Farmers Branch, TX got its first school in 1846 with Farmers Branch's first post office following two years later in 1848. Isaac Webb was the town's first postmaster.
