Dripping Springs, Texas
Part of Hays County, Dripping Springs is located twenty-five miles to the west of Austin, Texas off of U.S. Highway 290. As of the 2008 census, the population of Dripping Springs was estimated at nearly 2,000 with over 40% of the families in the city having at least one child under the age of eighteen in the home and roughly 61% of the residents were married couples who lived together at the time of the census. Residents of Dripping Springs use the 78620 zip code and the 512 area code that is shared with many of the neighboring towns in Hays County.
The first settler to have arrived in Dripping Springs is believed to have settled in 1849. In the 1850s, other families began arriving in Dripping Springs for the farming opportunities offered and the first post office opened its doors in 1857. By 1884 the town was thriving with 130 residents as well as a cotton gin and a steam gristmill.
The Dripping Springs Academy opened in 1881 and still survives to this day as the Dripping Springs Christian Academy. Currently, education is also provided to the children of Dripping Spring by the Dripping Springs Independent School District. There are now more than 1,500 business operating in this thriving town.
