A Bit About Allen Texas
Considered one of the wealthier suburbs of Dallas, the city of Allen, Texas has an estimated total population of 77,644 as of the 2007 census. Located in Collin County, Allen is bordered by McKinney, Plano, Wetsel, Lucas, and Frisco. Residents of Allen, TX are served by two zip codes, 75002 and 75013 and area codes, 972, 469 and 214. Allen purchased the Chase Oaks Golf Club in neighboring Plano in 2004 and offered discounted prices to Allen residents. In 2009, work was completed on the 7,500 seat Allen Event Center.
Many earlier settlers of the area that was to become Allen, TX found the area when traveling the Texas Road and the Central National Road while looking for free land. The original township of Allen, TX was laid out in 1872 when the Houston and Texas Central Railroad ran through Allen. When the Houston and Texas Central Railroad was purchased by J.P. Morgan and Company in 1877 more attention was paid to the burgeoning railway town that Allen had become. The railway again changed hands in 1883 with Southern Pacific taking control. It was under the ownership of Southern Pacific that a depot for both passengers and freight would be constructed in what had become the Allen Central Business District in 1918. It was from this point that the growth of Allen, Texas really began. Allen officially incorporated in 1953 and implemented Home Rule Status with a council/manager form of government in 1979.
